Numbers 10:21 (NIV) 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.
In Numbers 10, pursuant to Moses' command, the Israelites set out for their next destination. Moses is careful to record that he gave the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried the tabernacle, a head start so that they could get to the next destination first and set up the tabernacle ahead of time (v17). That way, when the Kohathites arrived later with the holy things (such as the ark of God's presence, the bread, the table, the lampstand, etc.), they could store them immediately into the tabernacle without any delay. (Good planning and administration by Moses and his team!)
What can we learn from this?
1. Your heart is like a tabernacle where God wants to store His holy things. In the tabernacle of your heart God wants to deposit His presence (represented by the ark), His Word (represented by the bread), His guiding light (represented by the lampstand), and His friendship (represented by the table).
2. Just as Numbers 10 talks about Moses and the Israelites entering new territory, every new day is for us like going into new territory. So whenever you start a new day, give your heart a head start. Before you do anything else, like Moses and the Israelites, set up your tabernacle (your heart) first. Only when the tabernacle of your heart is set up and ready will God be able to deposit His holy things there.
How do you give your heart a head start? Every morning be intentional about getting your heart ready for God. Start each day with a prayer. Say, "Good morning, Holy Spirit. I welcome you today." And come to God's Word with a hungry, open heart. In so doing, like setting up a tabernacle, you're getting your heart ready to receive the holy things God wants to store in you. Don't miss what God wants to store in you because you weren't ready! Instead, give your heart the head start it needs.
Holy Spirit, I welcome You into my life. Today I open up my heart and get myself ready to receive whatever You want to give me. Let Your presence, Your Word and Your wisdom fill me. Let me not miss a single thing You want to show me today.
