Numbers 9:23 (NIV)
23 At the LORD's command they encamped, and at the LORD's command they set out. They obeyed the LORD's order, in accordance with his command through Moses.
In Numbers 9:15-23 we see a great example of the faith the Israelites had in God and in their leaders. The Israelites would set out on their travels depending on when and where God was guiding them, based on the command given through Moses. Their standard for determining whether to stay or go was not their own feelings or how easy or difficult their circumstances were. Rather, they coveted God's presence, as represented by a cloud that covered the tabernacle by day and a fire that covered the tabernacle by night. When the cloud of God's presence lifted, they set out. When the cloud of God's presence stayed, so did they.
It didn't matter how long or how short ago they had last set up camp. When the Lord through Moses told His people to go, they went (v20-21). It didn't matter if it was during the day or at night, when the Lord through Moses told His people to go, they went.
In the same way, let's pray that we as the people of God would be sensitive and obedient to God's leading, and that we would with faith go wherever God wants us to go to fulfill His destiny for us as His church.
