Numbers 3:25-26 (NIV)
25 At the Tent of Meeting the Gershonites were responsible for the care of the tabernacle and tent, its coverings, the curtain at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting,
26 the curtains of the courtyard, the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard surrounding the tabernacle and altar, and the ropes--and everything related to their use.
On verses 25-26 (and also verses 31 and 36): We see again how organized God is. God assigns clear and specific jobs to each of the Levite clans so that everyone knows what they are responsible for. It goes to show that maintaining and growing a great church is not just about good atmosphere or powerful teaching, but also about good administration and effective organization. When leading a team, make sure to assign clear and specific jobs to the people on your team so that everyone knows what they are responsible for.
Numbers 3:38b (NIV)
38 ...Anyone else who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.
On verse 38b: Why would anyone who was not anointed a priest or a priest's helper be put to death if they approached the sanctuary? It's because unless God cleanses you of your sin, no one can stand in the presence of holy God. But praise God! He sent Jesus Christ to die for our sins. The death we were supposed to die, Jesus died for us so that we could approach God's sanctuary and enter His presence. It's all because of Jesus that we can have a relationship with God.
Numbers 3:48-49 (NIV)
48 Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons."
49 So Moses collected the redemption money from those who exceeded the number redeemed by the Levites.
On verses 48-49: Moses collected either a Levite or five shekels for each firstborn Israelite who should have been dedicated to God. That was the price for a firstborn Israelite to go free. In the same way, Jesus Christ was taken in our place so that we could go free. He paid for our redemption with his blood. For that reason Ephesians 1:7 says, "In him [Jesus] we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace".
Thank You Lord for paying the highest redemption price to save me and to bring me to Your side. Because of Jesus' blood I proclaim that I am redeemed, forgiven and accepted. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
