Leviticus 21:18 (NIV)
18 No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed;
Because God is perfect, His perfection means that nothing imperfect can come near Him. Anything or anyone with a defect is considered unworthy to be in God's presence. That is why the Jewish law repeatedly required that an animal to be sacrificed to the Lord must be without defect.
All of us have character defects that separate us from God. Because of our defects, we have no right to be in God's presence. But the great news is that God, knowing how many defects we have, sacrificed His Son, the only one without any defects, on our behalf.
When we place our faith in Jesus the Lamb of God without sin and without defect, His precious and perfect blood covers our sin so that we can be forgiven and accepted into God's presence.
Thank You God for loving me and letting me into Your presence despite all my defects -- all because of Your perfect Son Jesus.
